in the ocean

there's a motion

that'll comfort him



he lies down on his cellar floor

looks up at the ceiling

and when his eyes close

he floats away

his tennis shoes

and the sound they make

there's a tension when his feet hit the concrete

there's a tension when his shoes hit the grass



Roots burst from the ground

like a wave from the ocean

they carry him

(breaking concrete, breaking through the wind)



He thought they couldn't see him anymore

sneakers on concrete

this is how he would play

this is how he would get away
